Alessandro Trolli
Product Development & Continuous Improvement Engineer in Pikkala factory, in Finland

Alessandro Trolli joined the Prysmian Group through the 1st wave of Build the Future, in 2012. Find out what he does within the Group and what his experience is.
What do you do and why is it important?
I am currently working as Product Development & Continuous Improvement Engineer in Pikkala factory, in Finland. From one side, I am following the industrialization of submarine cables facing all the technical issues related to them; from the other side, I am working in the definition and implementation of new actions to enhance labour and material efficiency.
What is your team like?
The complexity of submarine cables execution requires flexible people, committed to the company. The team I am working with is a mix of Finnish and Italian engineers. We have miscellaneous background and different perspectives: this mix makes us suitable for this business!
How have you developed in your role?
What I am is a consequence of what I was and people I have met: I am influenced by three main factors. Firstly, I am pushed by my personal attitude to curiosity during my daily activities. Secondly, I have learnt the approach to work from the Submarine Product Development Team and from their commitment to the company. Last but not least, I was encouraged and supported by my mentor to take the proper decisions in the right moments.
What is the best thing about your job?
I really love dynamism of my job, which makes me strongly motivate every day. Flexibility, short time to react to any issues, working under pressure are some of the daily challenges I am facing.
If you could, what would you change?
Sometimes I felt the distance between HQ and the affiliate, but in the last years I saw enhancement in this sense and we are going to the right direction.
What has been your most rewarding project so far?
Since the very beginning I was involved in one of the most challenging project for the company, the Westernlink connection. On the same level, I am very proud to have worked in Pikkala for the delivery on time of other submarine projects like Borwin3, Dolwin3, Dardanelles1&2, Shannon River. Now the biggest challenge we are facing is the 50Hz project, which has also required million euro investments to upgrade Pikkala factory.
What is the international environment like?
Finland is somehow a very fascinating country, as well as the people I knew there. Cultural differences weren’t a barrier, but a bridge to discover a surprisingly new side of my nature.
What does your future look like?
Well, about my near future I am very close to end the two years abroad of the Graduate Program and ready to catch new opportunities in Submarine business. Generally speaking, I would be happy to work somewhere in the Prysmian globe where my expectations and company needs meet themselves.
Why would you recommend Prysmian to a young talent?
Prysmian empowered myself giving me the opportunity to work two years abroad: it´s not just a job, the Graduate Program impacts your entire life letting you achieve a big personal growth!
Cristiana Scelza, Head of SURF business, Brasil, has been Alessandro Trolli’s mentor since he joined the company.
Cristiana, which are Alessandro’s skills and how a young talent could contribute to the business?
Alessandro is a tall ´Little Prince´, a young man who knows how important is to conjugate personal and
professional values, somebody who is questioning himself all the time before questioning the others, looking beyond the surface and trusting even unusual characters because he may learn something.
He´s curious, dedicated, humble, willing to help for the company results: since the first day he has been trying to learn as much as possible for contributing quickly to solutions even in a very difficult case as the WesternLink project and he did it, he really contributed, in a very short period of time.
Respecting everybody, he´s a team builder, even in the most difficult environment, a true leader by example
